In which Our Heroine freaks herself out whilst writing in her journal.
FIRST APPEARANCE – Jennifer E. Johnson
Jennifer Johnson became a key figure in Scwonkey Dog when I was in college, tying together the plot threads and plans that would eventually coalesce into the version of Scwonkey Dog you are reading now. I always hated point-of-view characters when I was a kid, and I still hate them to this day. I don’t want to be Robin, I want to be Batman; I don’t want to be Spike (or Sam) or even Bumblebee, I want to be Optimus Prime. My absolute favorite use of a POV character is actually the pilot episode of the original C.S.I., where a young new C.S.I. joins the team, gets introduced to everyone, is shown the ropes, and then at the end is killed off.
HOWEVER, I realized that the world I was building was a ridiculous mess on par with your Marvel or DC comics, and had been building this way for all my life, so I needed a POV character, someone to whom the outlandish ideas and offbeat regular characters could be introduced. The idea of Jenn being the POV character was born out of storyline concepts I’d developed in middle school and high school, twisted and turned in knots. I’ll explain more later as the story develops.
