In which Our Heroine reveals her shame and Danielle shows off her glory.
NOTES
I really like this page. I like the rhythm of the top two panels and the expression of the third (even if it’s kind of a sloppy drawing). I love the fourth panel — that’s the SECOND drawing that made me go, “What? *I* did that? Really?” The next to last, with the lipstick, was an attempt to do something a little arty. Actually, it was going to be two panels like that one and no tying-the-back — I didn’t want to show Dani’s eyes until the reveal, for some reason — and moreover, didn’t want to show the dress, but I figure, it’s all the same page, so that kind blows the reveal anyway.
And the reveal … while I think her ears stick out a bit much, overall, I really like it. It’s all in that confident smile. A week or so ago I took a look at the first stab I took at that drawing and man, it was awful. I can’t believe I ever considered it acceptable. This, though — yeah, I think I’m doing better work now, but this still really works.
Okay, I was wrong a few pages ago. No lines in the hair during the lipstick panel. But that’s an odd picture anyway, so I think it gets a pass …
The fan on the wall and the vase, as well as the general ambiance of Dani’s apartment, are all based on my ex-girlfriend’s apartment. Partly, this is because I thought the decor and ambiance of her place was cool; partly it’s because that was the last female person’s apartment I was in when I drew this. And still is, as of this writing. *sigh*
