Chapter 1 - Page 13
In which Our Heroine is brought to anger by the activities she sees in Leonard’s penthouse.
NOTES
The panel in the elevator as sketched on my layout for this page — or maybe for the previous page, since it was originally going to be back there — was a lot better than this, I’m pretty sure.
Originally I had a little arrow coming from Jenn’s eyes in panel three with the word “HATE” written under it, pointing up at Danielle. That seemed a bit much. But GOD, look at the expression on Danielle’s face there. You’d hate her, too, if she was doing that to you.
That panel of Leonard when the elevator “dings” was supposed to be a mere placeholder for a better drawing later. Hrmph.
The panorama of the party was supposed to be bigger, but I think it gets the point across. A few weeks ago (as of Dec. 2007) I was watching the eccentric cop drama LIFE, on NBC, and there were a couple of rich nerds throwing a big shindig complete with dim, scantily-clad babes all over; I saw that and went, “Hey, it’s Leonard’s party — if I felt like I could get away with it!” But beyond that, I actually kind of want you to LIKE Leonard, whereas the nerds running the party on LIFE were supposed to be scum.
See the picture of the green screen saver bouncing bars on the wall by the elevator? I was originally going to have those bouncing around the room, but I thought better of it. Actually I was considering even removing those from that picture and replacing them with something a little more like what you find elsewhere in the penthouse. More on that later.
And get a load of that awful floor! There’s a reason that a few pages later it’s toned down a bit. Yuck! What the hell was I thinking with the red and green? It was still August, so I certainly wasn’t thinking of Christmas … was I?
