Chapter 1 - Page 20

In which we find that our Big Bad Villain has daddy issues.

NOTES

Antoine Rigel was originally created as the OTHER associate of Scwonkey’s in the aforementioned opening SCWONKEY DOG story from when I was in either eighth grade or early high school. In those days he was a short green-haired science officer who eventually betrayed Scwonkey and his pals to the Red Force. As with Bostworth, I decided that the preexisting character was useless and one-note and crap, and decided to do something different with the name. When I decided that the Red Force needed an “evil prince” type of character, I remembered the Rigel name and figured it would be a good fit — as would the green hair that went with it.

And of course we’re also introduced to the Red Dog, the evil overlord of the piece. With communications cut off, I don’t think we’ll be seeing him again until maybe an epilogue scene at the end of Chapter 2, or for sure the beginning of Chapter 3 — so I’ll talk about him a little bit then. All you see him as here is an angry old man … which, in a lot of ways, sums him up well, for the time being.

Here we get our first glimpse of the previously-mentioned “Rabbit.” Later we’ll get a better look and you’ll REALLY see why the ship is called the Rabbit. It’s one of the more unabashedly silly mechanical designs I came up with when I was a kid, and recalling the way that one of my closest friends told me when I was in high school that it’s the sort of silly thing you should throw away and let go of, I included it here almost as a defiant gesture — I embrace the silliness of having a dropship shaped like a bunny rabbit.
