In which Vanessa makes a tragic error.
Ah, Zaero. With Rigel taking off pretty quick here, I had to dig out another baddie for the rest of this first two-part story, and so I dusted off good old Android Force Commander 0, whipped up a new spelling for his name so as to differentiate him from the hundred-and-one anime and video game characters named “Zero” (though feel free to pronounce it “ZAYero” — even I do, and I know better), and tossed him into the mix.
Despite looking like little more than a slightly tweaked standard-issue Red Force android trooper, Zaero’s another character who’s been a thorn in the SC Force’s side since I was in grade school. I even recall wandering around the playground setting up the character’s eventual endpoint, which is an awfully funny endpoint in the context of where the SCWONKEY DOG story has gone … not that I’m telling you now, but if you’ve been reading along so far and kept on going, “Huh, this is just odd,” well, believe me when I say it’s ALWAYS been that way, in most of the same ways. Even when I was a little kid.
I hope in the print version the printer doesn’t screw up the registration so the corner of the page actually winds up fading to black properly without a white edge. I guess we’ll see, eh?
