Chapter 2 - Page 43
In which Jennifer is completely honest and only sort-of self-aware.
If You Are Reading This, Clearly Every Day Since Last Friday Has Been Deathly Dull.
The first thing I should say today is quite the big thing I’ve known for a while that I’m only just now going to share:I will be attending Wizard World Chicago at the end of this month, with a pile of Scwonkey Dog comics to peddle and my Ally Comix co-conspirators by my side. The Ally group is the brainchild of my pal Evan Cass, and certainly he can speak about the whole thing much more eloquently than I. So far the thrust of the thing has been building grand plans for the future and cheerleading one another when we’ve been down on our own creative endeavors — which, as you can tell due to the infrequent updates we’ve been suffering down here at SC Central, has been a pretty consistent problem on my end lately.
But yeah, I’ll be hanging out at a table in Artists’ Alley down at the big convention center in Rosemont, IL (Chicago For Con-Goers) from June 26-29. Bring your copies of The Art of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles that need to be signed, buy a print edition of this here webcomic, or just drop by and say “hi.” I’ve sat and stood behind enough tables at conventions in my time that I *know* how damned draining it is, and a friendly wave, a chat, anything to break the tedium of sitting around waiting for the room to close would be appreciated! (Hell, this won’t even be the first time I’ve been in that building — though it WILL be the first time in that building where I won’t be crushing myself with a giant pallet of anime merchandise that’s way too heavy for me to push up a slight incline …)
Meanwhile, in geek-out land, Hasbro has posted new images of their upcoming Transformers Universe GALVATRON figure. It continues to look awesome, at least to my eyes. I especially dig that box art. The orange plastic used for the interior jointing and wheels and such seems a bit odd, but it’s far, far from a dealbreaker for me. The head sculpt is just about perfect, very reminiscent of the character’s appearance in a lot of the comics that came out of the United Kingdom back in the 1980’s, and somehow putting the Decepticon insignia on the shoulder just feels so right — shades of Optimus Prime’s Autobot symbol on each shoulder, and all that.
That’s probably the Transformers figure I’m most looking forward to in the next few months. Not that I am unenthused about the Transformers Animated figures coming down the pipeline in, oh, a week or so now? But few things hit my nostalgia buttons just right like references to the 1986 Transformers: The Movie cast of characters. That’s when I became a real, dyed-in-the-wool Transfan for life, so that group of characters will always have a certain resonance for me.
Elsewhere in my interest areas, this is almost too sexy for words. Yellow Belmont’s gonna slice and dice ya’, blow you to hell, then totally rock out. I need one of those yesterday.
